CITE Conference

Navigating AI and Cybersecurity: New Findings about the State of Cybersecurity Preparation in California K-12 Districts
Speaker(s):Julie Evans, Project Tomorrow
Cybersecurity & Privacy
Location: Room 201 D (2nd Floor)
Description: In this interactive session, we will unpack both the latest national data from the Project Tomorrow annual survey on cybersecurity in K-12 districts and the data collected specifically from California districts across the state. Audience members will be polled about their views on the intersection of AI and cybersecurity in their districts. Facilitated by Dr. Julie Evans, CEO of Project Tomorrow, a panel of California K-12 CIOs will provide additional commentary and perspective on the Project Tomorrow research findings with a particular emphasis on the steps and actions taken in their districts to effectively managing both AI and cybersecurity. Each participant in the session will gain access to the 2026 co-branded CITE-Project Tomorrow report on the California data findings and an invitation to participate in the 2027 research project. The 2026 State of Cybersecurity in California Districts report can be a highly valuable tool for stimulating new discussions in your district and moving beyond the out-of-date belief that cybersecurity is exclusively an IT function. Our goal is to help district technology leaders learn new strategies, backed up by research, to ensure that their district teams are running forward in terms of cybersecurity preparation and AI policies, not backwards.
