AI in K-12 Education
How to engage in this research project:
Assess your school or district’s stakeholders’ understanding of AI and its current applications within the school community, gauge awareness of relevant policies or guidance, and gather perspectives on the benefits and concerns associated with AI in education.
This K–12 Education survey equips school and district leaders with critical data to inform strategic AI planning. Participants gain insights into stakeholder perspectives—including those of teachers, students, and parents—as well as emerging opportunities and challenges related to AI integration.
Why It Matters:
Voices from Last Year’s Speak Up participants
Don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what district leaders who participated last year had to say:
We were excited to participate in the Speak Up work because it allowed us to gain local data and information about how students, staff, and families are actually using and perceiving AI. It also supported the leaders of our district in making informed decisions about guidance, professional learning, and classroom implementation.
— Kelsey Perkins, Technology Integration Specialist, Oakland Schools, MI
Meriden participated in the Speak Up survey to gauge how our administrators were engaging with AI. The Speak Up survey helped us identify where additional support was needed and determine professional learning needs.
— Susan Moore, Director of Instructional Technology and Curriculum, Meriden Public Schools, CT
The use of the Speak Up surveys allowed us to gain insights from both our students and families, about their perceptions and beliefs on a variety of AI related topics helping us as a staff plan for what our next steps should be.
— Steven Buss, Middle School Principal, School District of Altoona, WI
These leaders came in with questions and left with data, direction, and a network of peers to lean on.
AI Working Group
Project Tomorrow will be facilitating an AI Working Group. If you are interested in more information, please email mgreen@tomorrow.org.
Meeting Details
Format: Five 60-minute online (Zoom) facilitated peer exchanges (April–November 2026)
Structure: Project Tomorrow presents relevant research insights, then facilitates discussion among participants
Who Attends: District leaders across curriculum, instructional technology, equity, and community engagement
Cost: Complimentary for survey participants
Other Working Group Topics
Project Tomorrow convenes working groups on four timely topics during the 2025-26 school year:
- AI in Education (you’re here!)
- Cybersecurity
- Data Privacy and Protection
- Evaluating EdTech Resources and Effectiveness
You’re welcome to participate in multiple groups based on your district’s priorities.
Districts should be crafting policies and guidelines and developing use cases around AI – with the input from your stakeholders as a key element. We can help you get that valuable input.

If your school or district is interested in participating, please email our Speak Up Project Manager, Sam Schroeder or you can complete the Participant Form.
