SUMMARY:SXSW EDU 2026
DESCRIPTION:Project Tomorrow will be presenting three sessions at SXSW EDU 2026 \nDATE: Mar 10\, 2026 \nTIME: 9:00am – 10:30am CT \n\nThe Thinking Game\n\nSchool isn’t all fun and games\, but games can help students practice solving real-world problems. In this hands-on workshop\, you’ll explore tabletop games that spark deep thinking and naturally build problem-solving skills. Hear stories from classrooms across the country that are using play and computational thinking to boost student and teacher confidence\, curiosity\, and resilience. You’ll leave with ready-to-use games and strategies to help students become stronger problem-solvers across subjects\, and better prepared for a future shaped by AI\, complex challenges\, and ever-changing careers. \nDATE: Mar 9\, 2026 \nTIME: 9:00am – 9:45am CT \n\nMissing Millions: Confronting the Attendance Crisis\n\nChronic absenteeism surged 28% in 2022–23\, with students in historically under-resourced communities hit hardest. This panel tackles how we can intervene before it’s too late. Experts from tech\, policy\, and education will share data-driven tools to identify at-risk students early and highlight real-world strategies districts are using to boost attendance. From AI-powered early warnings to community re-engagement\, panelists will explore how equitable access to technology can help schools not just track who’s missing—but bring them back. \nDATE: Mar 9\, 2026 \nTIME: 9:30am – 9:50am CT \n\nProblem-Solvers Wanted\n\nIn classrooms across Michigan\, New York City\, and Pennsylvania\, something’s changing. Students are sticking with hard problems longer. They’re asking better questions\, testing new ideas\, and communicating their thinking. They’re invested in learning\, not just chasing points or checking boxes. The shift? Teachers are using the language of computational thinking to make problem-solving visible\, tangible\, and doable for every student. It’s building teacher confidence and sparking innovation\, leading to more student-driven learning. It’s bringing joy and agency back into the classroom.

SUMMARY:Small Data\, Big Impact: Using Evidence to Drive Innovation in Teaching and Learning
DESCRIPTION:How do educators and leaders identify the right data—and use it to lead meaningful change? In this hands-on workshop\, teachers and school leaders will explore how key data points\, when connected to teaching and learning\, can support innovation\, inform strategic initiatives\, and strengthen leadership decisions. Drawing on CALIE’s statewide work and Project Tomorrow’s research\, participants will examine how evidence—both qualitative and quantitative—helps make instructional impact visible and guides forward-looking action. Rather than focusing on tools or dashboards\, this session centers on identifying the data that matters most\, connecting it to classroom practice\, and using it to support and advance instructional and system-level initiatives. Participants will also learn how engaging in CALIE’s statewide survey can provide actionable insights for their own context while contributing to a broader understanding of effective technology use across California. Post-session opportunity: Continue the work by connecting with others to identify a shared problem of practice and collaborate in follow-up sessions focused on using evidence to support innovation\, leadership\, and sustained improvement.
