SUMMARY:Project Tomorrow at the National FETC
DESCRIPTION:Speak Up Project Director\, Michelle Green\, will be presenting at the National Future of Education Technology Conference on Thursday\, Jan 25\, 2024 from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM EST in S330E at the Orange County Convention Center. \nTitle: Advancing the Narrative: From Cybersecurity Awareness to District-wide Resilience\nSession Code: WS330E8 \nIn the span of a year\, K-12 districts have witnessed a significant evolution in cybersecurity awareness. While previously the focus rested largely on IT ownership\, the broader district community has now emerged as pivotal stakeholders. Recognizing this\, the goal is no longer mere awareness\, but the creation of a resilient digital ecosystem that thrives on collective responsibility. The increasing sophistication of cyber threats coupled with the growing integration of technology in education necessitates an adaptive\, comprehensive approach. \nThis workshop emphasizes the progression from mere cybersecurity awareness to decisive action\, underscoring the collective responsibility of the district in crafting a resilient digital ecosystem. Moving beyond merely reactive strategies\, it promotes a forward-thinking approach anchored in district-wide collaboration. Through this workshop\, we aspire to transition from basic awareness to genuine resilience\, aiming to guarantee our students a secure and continuous learning experience.

SUMMARY:Infusing Computational Thinking into Everyday Elementary Curriculum – Yes\, You Can!
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Julie Evans is presenting “Infusing Computational Thinking into Everyday Elementary Curriculum – Yes\, You Can!” at the 2023 Schools of the Future Conference in Hawaii on Friday Nov 17 from 10:15 to 12 noon  in room 314. \nAbout the session:\nDifferent than coding or computer science\, computational thinking (CT) skill development in young learners is about building capacity for problem-solving. SUMMARY:20-Year Speak Up Celebration & Congressional Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Project Tomorrow is excited to celebrate its 20th year of the Speak Up Research Initiative with the annual Congressional Briefing. \nSpeak Up was established in 2003 as an outcome of a national AmeriCorps program developed and managed by NetDay (the predecessor organization to Project Tomorrow) in five highly challenged communities. The AmeriCorps program focused on the “digital disconnect” between how students wanted to use technology for learning\, and how their teachers were using technology in the classroom. The first Speak Up online data collection process was funded by a small grant from the US Department of Education to inform the development of the National Education Technology Plan. \nSince 2003\, Speak Up has: \n\nCollected data from more than 5 million participants\nReached more than 30\,000 schools\nProvided information on trends to national\, state and local policymakers\n\nEach year\, Project Tomorrow presents Speak Up results to national policymakers at a Congressional Briefing. This year’s Congressional Briefing will be hosted both virtually and in-person by Project Tomorrow’s Champion Sponsor\, edWeb. \nStay tuned for more details!
