”Through creating the  Free IT Tutoring (FITT) program, I learned that there is so much to be learned, not only by teaching, but by interacting with people from diverse backgrounds” —Kate Jaihee Lee, Student, Brea Olinda High School

Program Description

Seeing a need for increased computer literacy in the adult community inspired Kate Lee to create FITT, a program that provides free tutoring for adults.  Each Saturday at the Brea library, FITT provides the opportunity for adults to learn how to create an email account, how to attach a file, or how to apply for a job using the computer.

Each week, a lesson plan for the tutoring session is created using the basics of internet use and computer operation.  When Kate realized that she would need help due to the growing number of adults participating in the program, she turned to her peers in Brea Olinda’s Global IT Academy.  She offered them community service hours to come and use their skills to assist in the tutoring efforts provided by FITT.

In the summer of 2009, Kate has plans to offer an 8 week Computer Basics Course, with lesson plans including Internet, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.  Also being constructed is a FITT website and an elementary school computer tutoring program.
