The goal of Educators Rising CA is to attract promising students to pursue education-related careers and to help them develop the skills and strong leadership traits that are found in high-quality educators, in addition to providing students with valuable leadership opportunities. Students serving as state officers will serve as ambassadors for the association and
will have multiple opportunities to engage in activities to build their leadership skills. We encourage all eligible students to consider applying for candidacy as Educators Rising CA State Officers.
The primary responsibility of a state officer is to be an ambassador for the organization and the future of the teaching profession. Effective state officers are articulate, self-motivated, outgoing, conscientious students with a passion for Educators Rising CA’s mission and vision, who will promote the organization as essential to the cultivation of tomorrow’s great educators. Officers must be comfortable with public speaking and connecting with education stakeholders (students, teachers, administrators, policymakers, etc.) both virtually and in person.
Meet Luis Diaz, Educators Rising California’s first Student President!
Luis is a senior at Century High School in Santa Ana. He has been a member of his EdRising CA chapter for more than a year, and not only competed in our statewide competition last year, he won first place in California in the Creative Lecture competition. Luis is passionate about speech and debate and plans to become a speech and debate and U.S. history teacher.
Luis has been gaining a wealth of teaching experience during his high school years. He has been a tutor to first graders, an AVID tutor to his peers and a member of the TEACH Academy.
Luis is hoping to help expand student interest in the EdRising CA state competitions and get more California students to compete at the national level. We look forward to working with Luis and the rest of the inaugural class of Student Officers!
Luis Diaz, alongside his advisor, James Oveson and Project Tomorrow CEO, Julie Evans being recognized as 2017’s Creative Lecture, first place.
